On the Road Again

Due to flooding in periods of heavy rain, a culvert that ran underneath the busy A19 trunk road and through the grounds of Melkridge Hall required upgrading. To facilitate the work, it was decided to install a new drainage system with increased capacity underneath the adjacent public footpath.

To manage the volume of water, it was decided to lay three 600mm diameter twin wall plastic drainage pipes embedded in concrete.

The existing culvert discharged into a stream and had to be temporarily diverted and a dry stone wall taken down to allow the construction of a new outfall for the new system.
The construction of the new outfall involved some complex shuttering work and the reinstating of the dry stone walling to cover the concrete benching and match the surrounding walls.
